You lucky lucky sod ...

My Nomad is in a box somewhere between here and Rotorua ... I am being posted to Rotorua in the North Island for 3 months to help train new recruit firefighters, and the firm have couriered my Bike up there for me.

hopefully you will have pics before I leave this weekend!

cheers,
hoogie

Hoogie -- here in the US, firefighters are typically employed by the municipality (and spend their working life in the same place). I take it it's different in NZ?

Yes ... we have a national fire service here, made up of career staff [permanents] and volunteer ... career staff make up about 20% of the total but go to 80% of the incidents, vollies make up 80% and go to 20% of the incidents ... composite brigades have both career and volunteer staffing.

Recruit training is done at a national level, as is the follow-on firefighter and officer courses ... other courses like MVA extrication are done on a district/station level ...
