How about the comfort of Ergon grips with full bar ends built in?

Hi, I had this concern/worry/luxury a couple of years ago. My Sherpa arrived with straight bars and Ergon grips and bar ends, which were comfy all right, and I did use all the possible hand positions. Interested in trying out the Thorn Comfort bars two years later, I found that over the first weeks of using them I stopped using the bar ends, with the bars and grips offering an all day -one position comfort! I took the ends off and have run with just the Comfort bars as is for the last two years, for tours/commutes/day runs. Being a lanky, but visually fussy begger, the comfort bars raised the bars by 5 cm, which meant I was able to lower the bars and remove some of the spacers. The bike looks ace now with only 4 spacers and  the handlebar stem running parallel to the top frame bar. I was out today for a 40 mile trip with headwind on both directions  Roll Eyes to Dunkeld and back, without even thinking about my hands/shoulders requiring a shift to another position. These  Comfort Bars are another Thorn classic!
Strongly recommended

dirty,
+1 for comfort bars with ergon grips, no pain - no need to change position for me.

My experience is that as I got older I needed more backward bend and a wider bar for my shoulders and back to feel comfortable.
In the last 20 years I have gone from 500mm wide straight bars with round grips and full bar ends to 600mm wide bars with 9° backward sweep each side, ergon GP1s and no bar ends.

So the answer may be to borrow some different bars and try them out. If you are young probably best to start with the narrow straight bars and work outwards.
