My current bicycle a Mongoose hilltoper has a 1 1/8 inch seat tube a 1 1/4 top tube and a 1.4 inch down tube. The bicycle now has 80000 touring miles on it with the rear wheel loaded with 165 pounds. This is the first bicycle I've owned that won't shimmy this includes a Cannondale touring and a Klein mountain bike and a lugged trek mountain bike. I am looking for a replacement. I know what I need and I can do the math. So far I have been reduced to magnifying images of bicycle frames to determine the tubing diameters. At least Thorn gives the tubing gauges.

My rough measurements of my Nomad Mk II:

top tube: 1 1/4 inch
seat tube 1 1/4 inch
down tube 1 3/8 inch

To confuse the issue, Thorn often have used conical top and down tubes.

If it's the Nomad you're looking at, all the details are stated in the brochure. You'll just need to convert from metric. Also if you call/email SJSC they will tell you all you need to know (I got Catalyst frameset details, including conical tubes diameters, of Andy Blance without a problem).
