New Thorn anatomical cork handlebar grips for Rohloff

After years of searching for the ideal grips for straight (or comfort) bars our designer Andy Blance has created our all-new Thorn anatomical cork grips specifically for Rohloff equipped cycles.

These unique grips are made exclusively for us and to our own design in Austria by the same people who make the handgrips used on the market-leading Leki walking poles.

The compressed cork is warm in winter, cool in summer, does not absorb moisture, has a firm feel with some cushioning, is very hard wearing and it is also an ecologically sound material.

The grips are a very pleasing shape, swollen in the middle and flared at either end... exactly the perfect hand-fitting shape that has been used for millennia for tools and weapons. The grips are ready mounted on a durable rubber chassis; they only require water to be securely fitted to handlebars.
The dimples in the cork allow both a good grip and some air circulation; the rubber ends give great day-to-day resistance to scuffing. The construction method means that the grips cannot be satisfactorily cut down. So Andy has designed a matching, but shorter, right grip without the flare by the shifter, to accommodate the Rohloff twist grip.

Early testing has shown that it is now no longer necessary (for comfort or grip) to wear track mitts on long rides. Andy is very pleased with these very durable, comfortable and stylish grips designed specifically for Rohloff bikes!

Please note: The RHS requires 112mm of bare handlebar outboard of the Rohloff shifter, but in practice, if you have insufficient room, a small spacer (max 10mm) could be cut from an old pair of bars and placed inside both grips prior to fitting... the rubber chassis is rigid enough to permit this. Also note: If you have chosen to fit your shifter on the left hand side then the handedness of the grips may be reversed to suit.
