Cycle Mechanic 

This is a rare opportunity to join our small team of mechanics who are lucky enough to build the world renowned Thorn touring bikes and tandems.

We are looking for a friendly, experienced and confident individual to join us in our busy workshop.

This is a full-time position but we would consider part-time (3-4 days per week) depending on the right person and business requirements.

Some retail sales work may be involved as and when required.

This post may include overtime.

Salary: £15,000 - £19,000 pro rata - dependent upon experience.

Essential Skills:

  • To build a range of cycles to customer specifications and required standards.
  • To use diagnostic skills and good mechanical ability to re-build, repair and service bicycles.
  • To work in a team.
  • To be self-motivated with good time management.
  • To have a rigorous approach to following processes and procedures and instructions.
  • To adopt new skills and accept training when offered.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Speak, read and write English.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience of working within a production orientated workshop.
  • Experience of working within mechanical trade, preferably with bicycle or car maintenance.
  • Detailed knowledge of cycling and cycling products.
  • Detailed knowledge of hub gears.
  • Ability to build service and repair wheels to a good standard.
  • Previous sales experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • GCSE English grade C (or equivalent) or above.
  • GCSE mathematics grade C (or equivalent) or above.
  • Cytech level 2 or NVQ level 2 or above.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Build Thorn bicycles to the company’s exacting standards.

Repair and service customers’ bicycles to the required standard.

Work closely with the workshop supervisor to ensure that daily production targets are met.

Seek knowledge and clarification from colleagues.

Maintain a clean and safe workshop area.

Be punctual, reliable and committed.

Be flexible and carry out any reasonable requested tasks within the company.
